Newsletter 3: Balancing Uncertainty: How to Stay Grounded When the World Feels Heavy

I see you, and I resonate with you.
Trust me—collective resonance and emotional contagion are real things.

Right now, there’s a lot happening around us—politically, economically, socially. News cycles are relentless. People are worried about jobs, finances, immigration, the economy, safety, and the future.

And yet… we still have to show up.

We still have meetings to attend, teams to lead, families to care for, and decisions to make.

If you’ve been feeling a little more on edge, more tired, or less patient than usual, you’re not alone. This is what uncertainty does to the human nervous system.

So instead of pretending it’s not there, let’s explore a few practical ways to ground yourself when uncertainty is loud.

A Simple Reset When Your Mind Is Racing

One practice I return to often, especially on overwhelming days, is a grounding exercise that brings me back to the present moment:

The 5–4–3–2–1 Reset

  • 5 things you can see
  • 4 things you can hear
  • 3 things you can physically touch
  • 2 things you can smell
  • 1 thing you can taste

This takes less than two minutes. I’ve done it in my office, in my car, even before walking into a difficult conversation. It helps calm the nervous system and reminds your body: right now, in this moment, you are safe.

Focus Where You Have Power

Another tool I share with leaders is what I call the Control Circle:

  1. Take a piece of paper and draw a circle.
  2. Inside the circle: write what you can control—your responses, your boundaries, how you communicate, how you care for yourself, your next best step.
  3. Outside the circle: write what you cannot control—global events, political decisions, market shifts, other people’s reactions.

When uncertainty starts to spiral, gently bring your attention back to what’s inside the circle. That’s where your energy is most useful—and least draining.

A Gentle Leadership Reminder

Here’s something I want you to hear clearly:

You don’t have to have all the answers right now.

Balancing uncertainty isn’t about being unbothered or strong all the time. It’s about learning how to pause, regulate, and move forward with intention—even when things feel unsettled.

If you’re leading others, remember this: your calm doesn’t mean you ignore reality. It means you’re creating stability within it.

You Don’t Have to Do This Alone

If any of this resonates, whether personally or professionally, know that support matters. Sometimes a few small tools are enough. Other times, having a space to talk things through makes all the difference.

If you’d like help navigating uncertainty for yourself—or supporting your team through it—I’m here. You’re always welcome to reach out, reply to this newsletter, or simply start a conversation.

We’re living through complex times, but you don’t have to carry it all by yourself.
